From Heritage Hill historic homes to mid-century east-side ranches, established roofing for the Grand Rapids housing stock that needs it done right.
Grand Rapids has the deepest housing inventory in West Michigan, and it spans more eras than almost anywhere else in the region. We see four patterns most often:
The City of Grand Rapids requires a building permit for every roof replacement and most repairs that touch decking. Permits issue through the Development Center on Monroe Center NW, typically within 2 to 5 business days. Final inspection is required before the project closes.
Heritage Hill, Heartside, and a handful of other historic districts impose additional review through the Historic Preservation Commission for any change visible from the public way (material change, color change, profile change). Routine asphalt-to-asphalt replacement in the same color is exempt; cedar-to-asphalt conversions and any visible profile changes need HPC sign-off. We handle that paperwork.
